FACTS ON YEMAYA

Yemaya, Mother of Orishas, Mother of all waters, Protector of women and children, Protector of
Fisherman, Healer, Divinator, Mother of love, beauty, fertility, virtue, wisdom. Often represents as a
mermaid she is maternal, nurturing, wise and virtuous. When she goes into war she fights with a
machete, she is clever and brave, no one can defeat her. Her punishments can be terrible when
outraged but when proper remorse is shown she is fair-minded and forgiving. Associated with stars and
the moon which control the sea, those who build a relation with her must be careful when near the sea
for she likes to keep things that she loves close to her. Just like the sea with many levels and depths, there

are many paths of Yemaya.
